DRIFT joins IRENA’s SIDS Lighthouses Initiative!
DRIFT Energy is delighted to have joined the Small Island Developing States Lighthouses Initiative (SIDS LHI) as a new partner. We look forward to working collaboratively with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), coordinator and facilitator of the initiative, to strengthen SIDS climate resilience and sustainable development.
The SIDS LHI is a framework for action to support SIDS’ energy transition efforts from fossil fuel dependence to renewables. The initiative brings together 41 SIDS as well as some 90+ partners, including developed countries, regional and international organisations, development and multilateral agencies, private companies, research institutes and non-profit organisations.
DRIFT offers a new class of mobile, renewable power with state-of-the-art sailing ships that produce clean energy at sea, independent of the power grid. Like ‘fishing boats for energy,’ our high-performance vessels use deep ocean wind and a unique AI-enabled routing algorithm to navigate ideal weather, maximizing energy production. When their tanks are full, they return to port to deliver clean, green energy wherever it is needed.
Partnerships are crucial for us to achieve our vision of ‘Oceans of Energy’. Through strategic collaborations such as this, we aim to support coastal and island communities worldwide with mobile and resilient solutions that overcome infrastructure constraints. For SIDS, this represents a new path to energy independence, turning vast ocean spaces into a powerhouse for clean energy!
We cannot wait to see DRIFT’s groundbreaking technology unlocking island communities’ greatest resource, to enable a sustainable, fair and equitable energy transition for SIDS everywhere.
SIDS Lighthouses Initiative is supported and coordinated by the International Renewable Energy Agency.
